Want a Unique Men’s Wedding Band? Consider These 3 Things First - Gentlemen's Bands

If you’re looking for a men’s wedding band, and hate the thought of being stuck with a plain gold ring for the rest of your life, there’s never been a greater time to be alive. Gone are the days of the one-style-fits-all narrow gold wedding ring for men. Today’s groom can choose from a wide variety of unique men’s wedding bands that express your personality and fit your lifestyle.

The combinations of metals, materials, shapes, sizes, and textures that are available now provide endless options for your wedding ring. But before you pull the trigger on a purchase, do your research and be sure you’ve found the right one for you. We can help you choose a wedding band that will last a lifetime so check out these considerations to guide your decision.

Consideration #1:Wedding Ring Metals and Materials

Whether you’re looking for a timeless classic or rugged statement piece, it’s important to be familiar with the various metals and materials used to make quality wedding bands. Cool rings are highly sought after but each unique ring has its own advantages and disadvantages that you should understand before making a purchase.

Let’s run down a list of the more common metal choices:

  • Gold – Usually in yellow or white, it is soft and has a high polish. It’s the most popular/traditional option, but may not be the best choice if you’re a guy who works hard with his hands. It can easily get scratched or dented. On the plus side, gold is easy to resize if you ever need to. (Heads up, gentlemen, your fingers change as you get older. Since this is hopefully a lifetime piece of jewelry, it’s something to keep in mind.)
  • Tungsten – This is a newer option in more of a matte finish that is perfect for the guy who is tough on stuff. It’s a hard metal that can really take a lot of abuse without showing any wear. If your work is physically demanding, you might want a ring made from metal that can take the abuse. However, because tungsten is so dense, you can’t resize it. So when you get “old man hands” later in life, it could be a problem. A lot of guys size these rings up a little to allow for that kind of thing.
  • Platinum – It’s another white metal, and it comes with a heftier price tag. But there are good reasons for that: it will never lose its shine (gold tends to fade over time), it’s so durable it could easily be around for generations, it’s much more rare and valuable than gold (30x rarer, in fact), and if you’re a guy who has skin sensitivities or allergies this won’t bother you at all.

Now let’s get those creative juices flowing by introducing you to some unusual (but extremely cool) things your ring could be made from that you might not have thought of:

  • Titanium, Carbon Fiber, or Zirconium – Durable, lightweight, non-corrosive, and affordable.
  • Opal or Abalone – A sliver of multicolor gemstone or iridescent shell for a great pop of color.
  • Wood – As many possibilities as there are species of trees!
  • Whiskey Barrels – Aged to perfection with a story to tell…just like you.
  • Deer Antlers – Show off something that represents the second love of your life.
  • Guitar Strings – In a band? Wear a band that incorporates an actual guitar string to…ahem…strike the right chord
  • Meteorite – No joke. Imagine a piece of space rock on your finger. It’s a ring that’s out of this world. (Ok, ok. We’ll stop.)

Consideration #2: Wedding Ring Cost

Once you’ve narrowed down the kind of ring you want, it’s time to think about how much you’re willing to spend. As with most things related to weddings, you can spend a little or you can spend a lot.

Most men’s wedding bands range anywhere from $200 to over $1,000. That’s a pretty wide gap that covers everything from a super simple gold band to elaborate finger art featuring multiple materials and diamonds.

We happen to believe that guys deserve to have a good-looking wedding ring that doesn’t break the bank. (Most of our best sellers are very reasonably priced.)

Consideration #3: Your Lifestyle

Most importantly, think about how you’re going to live in this ring—we hope you’ll wear it for the rest of your life. Choose a ring that fits not only your personality but your lifestyle as well.

Like we mentioned above, different metals and materials work well or not depending on what environment they’re going to be in day after day. Also, think about how much care and maintenance a ring might need. For example, tungsten doesn’t mind being ignored, but a wooden ring will need some occasional TLC.

There are no wrong answers…just better or worse based on what you like and how you live.
